Nutrition and Health

One of the most important challenges for a European citizen today is the contribution of our diet in our health and quality of life.

The fact that obesity is a complex social phenomenon, which cannot be alleviated without concerted social efforts, is now widely accepted. Diet is not the only factor which leads to obesity.

SEVT believes that the primary factors in maintaining good health and reducing obesity are:

  • A balanced and healthy diet with moderate consumption of all foods (“moderation in all things”), combined with
  • Sufficient physical activity, and
  • Reliable consumer information and education on health dietary habits.

We must therefore provide consumers with the information and knowledge they need to make better decisions every day, in order to enjoy their food without unnecessary concerns. For this reason, SEVT has drafted and applied the Code of Principles for Diet, Physical Activity, and Health.

The Code has been adopted by the SEVT Members; it expresses SEVT’s effective actions and the substantial contributions of the Food Industry in the systematic management of the problem of obesity.
