SEVT believes that, in order to maintain one’s health, a more balanced and healthy diet should be adopted combined with reasoned consumption of all food, adequate physical activity and appropriate information and training on the healthy nutritional habits. As it is well known, the obesity is a multi factorial issue that requires multi - dimensional solutions. Diet is not the only one factor that leads to obesity.
In the context of the European Platform, the Hellenic Food Industry and SEVT, as its professional representative, have decided to take a set of initiatives. The most important was the development of the Code of Principles for Diet, Physical Activity and Health. The Code is composed by 6 principles, has been fully endorsed by its Members and indicates SEVT activation and the Food Industry substantial contribution to reverse current trend in obesity.
More specifically, in June 2005, the Members of SEVT committed themselves to contribute to a balanced and healthy diet by improving the products already exist on the market. Furthermore, they undertook to develop new or existing formulas that will meet consumers’ current needs for a balanced diet.
The 6 Principles of Code are:
1. Better education and training of foods industries on nutritional topics.
2. Information through labelling.
3. Product choice.
4. Consumers’ training and promotion of a healthy way of living and physical activity.
5. Responsible advertising
6. Collaboration with social partners.
