SEVT recognizes that the role of the Food Industry is to provide to consumers with products of high quality, safe and at the best possible price that meet their needs.
In modern times, dietary choices are related to various socio-economic and environmental factors that affect consumers. The rise of obesity and other non-communicable diseases in the European population is very high and continues to increase. To address the issue, the Food and Drink Industries have developed, supported and encouraged key initiatives within the European Platform for Action on Nutrition, Physical Activity and Health. These include voluntary commitments and initiatives, ranging from redesigning existing and / or new innovative products, covering modern nutritional needs to providing nutritional information, as well as promoting best practices for responsible communication.
SEVT supports that the multi-stakeholder approach is the most effective strategy to address the major societal challenges related to nutrition and health. It is not enough for each operator to act alone, it is necessary for the industry, the Competent Authorities and all the social partners to join forces with the common goal of properly informing consumers about balanced nutritional choices.
