DELTA participated, on a voluntary basis, at the European program PEFMED, through which the European methodology on the “Product environmental footprint” is tested in the Mediterranean region. The aim of this initiative of the European Commission is to help the companies to improve their environmental performances. The project was coordinated by the Federation of Hellenic Food Industries (SEVT), together with 5 other National Food Federations (of Italy, Spain, Slovenia and Portugal). In Greece, the Dairy sector was selected and the cheese Feta, that is produced at the region of Thessaly, was the pilot product.
The employees of DELTA factory in Elassona, Thessaly, where the product is produced, provided all necessary information and support throughout the testing and contributed to its successful completion. Useful information and suggestions for improvement of the methodology were also gathered and communicated to the project partnership.
DELTA will continue to support such initiatives of SEVT that promote the enhancement of the Greek Food Industry environmental performance and the development of synergies across the food supply chain.
