EUROPEAN TECHNOLOGY PLATFORM

European Technology Platform (ETP) “Food for Life” was created as an initiative of FoodDrinkEurope (Confederation of Food and Drink Industries of the European Union) and its members, while is supported by the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission.

ETP “Food for Life” addresses innovation in the Agri-food Sector, which is the largest manufacturing sector within the EU. Specifically, the main objective of ETP “Food for Life” is to plot a common strategy of the Food & Drink Industry for research closely related to topics like Nutrition, Food, Consumers and Food Chain Management, thus aiming to promote innovation and business competitiveness with the ultimate goal of developing improved food, which will meet the modern demands and needs of consumers.

Since its establishment the ETP “Food for Life” has created strong links between the Food Industry & Academia/Research Institutes in order to prioritise the major research needs for the EU Food and Drink Industry as well as to secure the appropriate resources might be needed (where they might come from, and what other non-research issues will have to be addressed) in order to ensure the European Research Area for the Food Sector becomes a reality.

The ETP “Food for Life” represents a unique opportunity for all stakeholders in the European food chain to increase their competitive strength and to safeguard the continued well-being and welfare of consumers across Europe.

ETP “Food for Life” presents its new Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda

In December 2016, the European Technology Platform (ETP) “Food for Life”, has published the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) aiming to showcase the opportunities for Research and Innovation and to improve the transfer and exchange of knowledge across the Food and Drink Sector in Europe. SRIA has been revised twice and has been drafted to include a multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral approach, which is considered more likely to lead to the development of innovations. In this document, the ETP "Food for Life" has identified the challenges that the Food and Drink Sector is currently facing. These challenges reflect to social concerns and consumer demands for healthy, safe, and affordable foods.
