The FOODPRINT working team organized in Athens, from 21st to 24th June 2017, the ATHENS 2017 International Conference (www.athens2017.uest.gr). The main target of the conference was to strengthen the link of the applied research with industry. Emphasis was placed on Food Industry. Biotechnology, Circular economy, Best Available techniques, symbiosis networks, energy consumption and saving, carbon footprint and water footprint, zero-waste initiatives, marine litter constituted the target areas of the conference.
The Conference provided an excellent opportunity to bring together scientists & professionals from government departments, industries, Municipalities, private institutions, research & education institutions, acting as a forum for the exchange of the most recent ideas, techniques & experiences in all areas of solid waste management.
The Conference celebrated the 25th Anniversary of LIFE, the financial tool of the European Commission for the Environment and was organized within the LIFE FOODPRINT project, aiming to identify, quantify and implement measures to reduce the carbon footprint of the food industry sector including waste management.
The Vice-President of SEVT, Mr I. A. Yiotis, adreessed a welcome speech, presenting SEVT strategy & initiatives for the sustainable development.

FOODPRINT special Session
The conference was organized within LIFE FOODPRINT project and a special session on topic “The contribution of the LIFE FOODPRINT project to reducing the carbon footprint in the food industry sector” took place on June, 23rd 2017.
FOODPRINT Pavillion
At the conference venue, SEVT and JOTIS SA in collaboration with the project partners had set up a pavillion for the FOODPRINT project where the project’s communication material was distributed to the attendees of the conference, information was provided and the FOODPRINT tool was presented in a screen.
