Why participate?

The participation to such an initiative, aims to highlight the contribution of the Food and Drink Industry in the development of a healthy diet and habits from an early stage.

In this context, advertising to children is of particular importance. This commitment wishes to limit advertising to children to those products that have a nutritional profile in line with the criteria set.

Which companies can participate?

  • Companies that advertise products to children under the age of 13 and thereby commit that their products are in line with the nutritional criteria set.
  • Companies that do not advertise at all to children under 13 years of age but yet support the initiative.

What are the criteria?

The Greek Pledge adopts the criteria of the European Pledge, which have been revised in July 2021. According to these criteria, the new age limit for children is 13 years.

For which advertised products does the Greek Pledge apply?

The pledge applies to all products that are not compliant with the EU Pledge's nutritional criteria and not only to so-called "children" products.

Which advertising media does the Greek Pledge concern?

The Greek pledge concerns the two most influential advertising media for children. TV and digital (online media, e.g. FB, YouTube, Instagram, influencers), corporate/brands sites.

Since when do commitments apply?

The Greek initiative started in May 2022.

How is the assessment carried out?

The procedure is as follows:

  • Participation to the annual monitoring. Each participating company is requested to send a list of its products that have been advertised over a specific period and to indicate whether the communication meets the nutritional criteria of the Pledge.
  • The monitoring is conducted for TV and digital advertising (social media, corporate websites, influencers).

Who has access to the results?

Each participating company receives the results separately. Only the overall outcome, with the overall compliance rate, is communicated to SEVT, not the detailed results.

Are penalties foreseen?

For companies that show a deviation from the desired result, no penalty system is foreseen, only a voluntary commitment to proceed to corrective measures.

What is the participation fee?

The participation fee is 1.240€ per year.
