Code of Principles for Nutrition, Physical Activity and Health
SEVT believes that, in order to maintain good health, a more balanced and healthy diet should be adopted combined with reasonable consumption of all food, adequate physical activity and appropriate information and education on healthy nutritional habits.
In the context of the European Platform, the Greek Food & Drink Industry via SEVT, that represents it, is committed to play a leading role through numerous related actions.
An important initiative was the development of the Code of Principles for Diet, Physical Activity and Health. The Code that consists of 6 main principles, is fully endorsed by the companies-Members of SEVT and depicts the Food Industry substantial contribution to reverse current trend in obesity.
More specifically, in June 2005, the Members of SEVT committed to contribute to a balanced and healthy diet, by improving the existing products and developing new formulas that will meet consumers’ needs.
The 6 Principles are:
- Optimum information and education of food industries on nutrition related topics.
- Information through labelling.
- More product choices.
- Consumers’ education and promotion of a healthy lifestyle and of physical activity.
- Responsible marketing & advertising.
- Collaboration with social partners.
